As the world collectively watches the minutes of another decade fade into the history books, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on some of the more notable bankruptcy filings of 2019.

The trend of struggling retail giants continued this year with stores such as Beauty Brands, Innovative Mattress Solutions, Shopko, Gymboree, Charlotte Russe, FullBeauty Brands, Things Remembered, Payless ShoeSource, Diesel USA, Z Gallerie, Charming Charlie, Barneys New York, A’gaci, Avenue, Fred’s, Forever 21 and Destination Maternity all filing for bankruptcy protection and relief. In a world where online connectivity keeps changing the retail landscape, it will be interesting to see if this trend continues with us into the new year.

Without having a crystal ball, it is hard to predict what the future may bring, but one constant always remains: change. Change can be challenging at times but ultimately changes bring new innovations, new developments and new beginnings.
